Rules

The same rules apply in game and on Discord. Banter is part of Rust. Attacking the person is not.

These rules apply on Discord and in game.

The rules, in game AND on Discord

  • No cheating: cheats, hacks, scripts or abusing bugs/exploits.
  • No hate or harassment: racism, homophobia, xenophobia, real threats outside the game, or stalking someone.
  • Do not share anyone's personal data: real name, address, photos, phone number.
  • Competitive banter is part of Rust: trash talk between teams is not a ticket matter.
  • No spam, flooding, NSFW, dodgy links or ads for other servers.
  • Do not dodge a punishment: coming back on another account to escape a ban or a mute is an offence in itself.
  • Use each channel for its topic.

The only difference between the two places: on Discord the bot punishes clear-cut hate on its own (a mute of 5 minutes at most). In game the bot only alerts the staff: a person decides.

Examples: this is FINE (it's Rust)

Banter between teams is part of the game. None of this gets you punished:

  • "you're a noob", "you're bad", "learn to build": normal trash talk.
  • "I'm going to kill you", "you're dead", "I'll shoot you": that is the whole point of the game. It is not a threat.
  • "I'm raiding you tonight", "see you at cargo", "your base is made of cardboard".
  • Mocking someone who lost their base, their loot or got 1v5'd. It's part of it.
  • Arguing loudly after a raid, or accusing someone of offlining.

Examples: this gets you PUNISHED

This is no longer the game, it's the person. All of these have happened here:

  • Posting someone's real name or surname in chat.
  • Threats outside the game: "I know where you live", "come outside", "I'll smash your face", dragging family into it.
  • "kill yourself", "do the planet a favour". Never, not as a joke and not as a comeback.
  • Calling someone a paedophile or a rapist, or accusing someone of a crime.
  • Saying you have a recording of someone's voice or conversation and that you will post it. The threat alone is an offence.
  • Insulting someone's family, body, an illness or a disability.

The three questions that always come up

"But he started it." Doesn't count. Take a screenshot and open a ticket: answering in kind gets you both punished, and yours is no smaller because his exists.

"I only said his first name, it's on Steam." What exposes a person is the combination: first name + surname, name + town, name + photo. When in doubt, don't say anything the person has not written themselves.

"It was just a joke." A joke is measured by the person on the receiving end. If they asked you to stop and you kept going, it's harassment.

Voice and privacy (important)

  • Recording other members' voice, image or conversations without everyone's consent is FORBIDDEN.
  • Recording or sharing recordings of someone without consent is a crime in Portugal (art. 199 of the Penal Code): immediate ban, and it may be reported to the authorities.
  • Voice channels are shared spaces: when you join, other people are listening. If you don't want to be heard, don't use voice.
  • The staff does not record voice channels. Any recording made by a member is their own responsibility, not the server's or the owner's.
  • Were you recorded or exposed without consent? Report it to the staff (and, if it's serious, to the authorities).

Portuguese law applies here too

  • Recording someone's voice/image without consent: crime (art. 199).
  • Threatening someone ("I'll hurt/beat/kill you"): crime (art. 153).
  • Insulting or defaming (spreading hurtful lies): crime (art. 180 and following).
  • Exposing someone's private life or personal data: crime (art. 192 and following, and the GDPR).
  • Repeatedly following/harassing someone (stalking): crime (art. 154-A).
  • Inciting hatred or discrimination: crime (art. 240).
  • Scams, fake sales, phishing: crime (art. 217).
  • Any sexual content involving minors: serious crime: ban and immediate report to the Polícia Judiciária (art. 176). ZERO tolerance.

Reporting NEVER gets you punished

  • Someone broke the rules? Take a screenshot and open a ticket. Don't answer in kind: that way you both get punished.
  • You can write what the person said to you to explain the case. Describing what happened is not breaking the rules; whoever reports is on the right side.
  • Disagree with a punishment? Open a ticket. Everything gets read, and punishments have been overturned when the mistake was ours.
  • We never silence you for complaining. What is not accepted is insulting whoever is handling the case.

What is automatic and what people decide

  • The bot only punishes on its own what is clear-cut: racism, homophobia, threats outside the game, encouraging suicide and glorifying it.
  • An automatic mute lasts 5 minutes at most. Never longer.
  • Insults in the heat of the game do not get an automatic punishment. The staff sees it and decides whether it needs anything.
  • Accusing someone of a crime (paedophilia, rape) is not decided by a robot: it goes straight to the staff, who read the context. It is too serious for a word list.
  • Everything else, doxxing, real threats, cheating, is decided by people: warning, mute, kick, ban, depending on the case.
  • Crimes are reported to the authorities.
